Hiotissa | Souma from Chios

We created the visual identity for Hiotissa, the first official bottled souma from Chios island, in Greece. Souma is a traditional alcoholic drink, similar to tsipouro, made from sun-dried figs and until now was only distilled in small batches in homemade unofficial distilleries.
Working closely with the distillery owner Christos, we developed a product identity based on various traditions and local art elements rooting in the history of the island.

Starting with the logotype, we got our inspiration from a local artist and the way he used to sign his work. We modified the font we picked to have the characteristic long “tails” on the vertical strokes. As a result we got an elegant tall logotype filled with history without being too heavy and restrictive.
On the next part we worked on the label, trying to apply the traditional technique of lace and embroidery on the shape of the label. To go a step further, we choose a special paper that can change its opacity at a certain temperature, so we got a different opacity at certain areas, that way we can imitate the laces holes by letting more light pass through the paper, creating a beautiful effect on the bottle.
The overall typography and layout is a blend of traditional and modern elements such as the embroidery style symbol of the fig, combined with a serif and san-serif fonts for the level 2 and 3 details on the label, with various print technics like embossing, blind foil printing, gold foil printing and custom diecut we added extra value to a premium product.
Last step was to create a custom wooden cap, inspired by the hats of the traditional suits with a characteristic concave shape.

Saardé – Olive oil soap

Saardé (pronounced sar-day) is a design-led brand, that creates considered,

textured, pared-back goods for home, body and travel.

Τhe brand founders, Verity & Shenol Kizek reached us and entrusted to our team to create their new logotype and the new olive oil soap packaging design, including a custom designed bottle and a labeling system.

Our design process was inspired by Saardé philosophy and ethos, the forms and colours of Mediterraneanand Turkey. We created a minimalistic symbol that reflects the natural character of the brand, but also being modern and simple, while the logotype feels more organic and romantic keeps the visual balance.

For the labeling system we created seven unique illustrated figures that represent the character of each product. The colours are vivid without feels unnatural and the typography bring a modern tone. We choose heavy papers with natural texture to enhance the experience.

On the bottle, we wanted our design to feel modern and up to date but also natural and raw. The main purpose is to create an object of “artistic value” for everyday use. Because the bottle is refillable, we had to create something the user would like to see it in his bathroom every morning and could easily fit in most houses.

The inspiration came from a raw bar of soap. The bottle keeps the raw edges and the organic forms of the bar.

The result is a familiar yet unique form of a bottle, combined with the smooth pump coloured on warm tones,makes the product feel down to earth.

Senses of Greece – Extra Virgin Olive oil

George had a vision, to create quality products, handpicked with love from his hometown near Kalamata, Greece. Our task was to recreate an atmosphere lost in time and bring to life a nostalgic part of Greece. The first part of the trip was to create the extra virgin olive oil product identity.

Blending between neoclassical and vintage elements with contemporary layout and font combinations we try to create a warm identity, that feels comfortable to live in any part and era of greek history of the last century.
This way the product can bring a different sense depending on your experience and memories. Another strong asset is the colour selection, bright/sunburned yellow, marine blue and earth tones for the overall identity encapsulates every part of greek countryside, that surely will bring a mideteranean feeling.

Lappa Olive – Premium & Organic Extra virgin olive oil

The Briefing: We’ve been asked from Lappa Avocado to develop the product identity for their new series of olive oil products, Lappa Olive. Lappa is a place with rich history from ancient times. The task was to create a chic and simple identity which withstands the time and will stay “classic”.

The Design: We choose to implement the story of five virgins (A Roman story) to the concept and try to blend it with the rich vegetation and the water springs of the area.
To transfer the concept into the logo, we represent each virgin with a cavity at the end of the tree’s roots (water streams). The symbol shows the origin of the highest quality olive oil. On the packaging we used natural de-saturated colours, with simple typography, in order to create the feeling of the long history. Last we made the cap from olive wood to achieve a more natural look.
